How do I use Parkmobile in Gated/Garage Facilities?

Do you park in a gated garage facility that displays Parkmobile signs and/or stickers?

If so, you can use the Parkmobile iPhone or Android app to pay for your parking there. It's an easy process, but you may find the information shown below helpful when you are getting started.

IMPORTANT: There are actually two different ways to pay for parking with the Parkmobile app in gated/garage facilities. How you use the app depends on what type of equipment your parking operator has in place in the parking facility. To make it as simple as possible for you to know which one applies to you, the best way is to look for the Parkmobile sign in the gated facility where you park.

Below, we explain both, and show two examples of the Parkmobile signage. Look for the sign below that has the same type of instructions as the sign in your gated parking facility. Then follow the instructions as listed on that sign.

SECTION - GATED PARKING FACILITY TYPE 1

If the sign in the gated parking facility where you park looks like this, follow the instructions on that sign, as shown in this section:

This section outlines general instructions for using Parkmobile at your parking facility, as well as detailed instructions on using the Parkmobile app to pay. Essentially, you need to understand what to do at the gate and with your payment ticket, but you also need to know how to use the Parkmobile app as a part of the parking and payment process. We'll address both of these below.

How do I use the Parkmobile app to pay for my parking in the garage?

There are Parkmobile instructional signs posted at the gated/garage facility entrances where Parkmobile is offered as a payment option. The signs will instruct you on how to use your account in your Parkmobile iPhone or Android app in order to pay for your parking. That information is shown here as well. You should register with Parkmobile before you plan to use the app to pay for the first time. This will make the process go more smoothly and you'll be ready to pay quickly rather than taking the time to register at the time of your parking stay.

Your payment will be processed after each of the below steps are followed. The payment will process through your Parkmobile app and you will not need to present payment at the gate or payment machine.

1) At the entrance to the gated facility, take the ticket as you normally do.

2) Keep the ticket so you will be able to exit as you normally do.

3) At any point in your parking stay, scan the ticket using your Parkmobile iPhone or Android app. This will create the payment session.

4) To exit the parking facility, insert the ticket into the ticket acceptor. (Make sure you remembered to scan the ticket using the Parkmobile app first!).

Are there step-by-step instructions of what I should see or do in the Parkmobile app?

As mentioned above, after downloading the iPhone or Android app and registering your account, you will be ready to use it the first time. To pay for your parking you will need to access the Parkmobile app.

Here are the steps and images in the app you can expect to see. This example below is shown using the iPhone app, but the functionality is the same as in the Android app and the steps and messages are essentially identical.

STEP 1 - When you open and log in to the Parkmobile app, you'll see the Parking page as shown below. To create a payment session, you can either enter the zone number that appears on the Parkmobile sign where you park OR tap the 'Scan' button under the header 'Parking Zone Number'.

STEP 2 - If you entered the zone number in step 1 this next step will automatically be done for you. If you tapped 'Scan' instead, you will be presented with a few choices for zone scanning. In areas that have Parkmobile signs indicating you should scan the ticket you pulled, you'll choose the 'Scan Gated Parking Ticket for Gated Parking Payment' option shown in the image below.

appstartcode.PNG

STEP 3 - When you tap the 'Scan Gated Parking Ticket' option noted above, a scanner will open in the Parkmobile app. You'll use this scanner to scan the bar code on the ticket you retrieved at the entrance to the parking facility. The image below shows the scanner in the app as it scans a bar code from one of these tickets:

appscantkt.PNG

WHOOPS! If you receive an error such as the one shown below, you may be attempting to scan a previously used ticket or a ticket for a gated facility that does not currently offer Parkmobile as a payment option in this way. Be sure to check signage in your parking area. You should see green Parkmobile signs that indicate we are available as a payment option there and also the correct process to follow in those areas.

STEP 4 - When the bar code has been successfully scanned, you will see a confirmation window asking you to review the information and to tap confirm to start the payment session. (This example shows Grand Rapids MI as the location but whatever location you are actually parking in will appear here when you use the app to pay.):

STEP 5 - When you confirm the information after scanning the ticket as noted above, you'll see a 'Successfully Parked' window letting you know your payment session was successful. It also includes instructions on what to do next:

appsessionstarted.jpg

STEP 6 - When you hit OK in the 'Successfully Parked' window as noted above, you'll just return to the main Parkmobile app and will see your active session appear in the 'Sessions' section of the app. Payment details such as when initiated will appear there. A total amount will NOT be shown there, as your payment won't be calculated until you leave the facility, inserting your ticket into the ticket acceptor, as instructed. Here is an example of an active session:

STEP 7 - When you leave the facility there is nothing more to do in the Parkmobile app. However, you do need to follow the instructions shown above for inserting your ticket into the ticket acceptor at the exit gate.If you tap the 'Ready to Leave' button in the active session, it will remind you of this:

STEP 8 - When you insert the ticket into the acceptor, the gate will rise allowing you to exit. Your payment will be calculated, charged to your payment method on file, and the payment session will deactivate. The session will no longer appear in your Sessions section of the app, but will appear in History instead.

In the image below, you can see no sessions are active, but you can tap the 'History' button at the top left to view your completed parking session payments.

SECTION - GATED PARKING FACILITY TYPE 2

If the sticker at the entrance of the gated parking facility where you park looks like this, follow the instructions on that Parkmobile sticker, as shown in this section:

This section outlines general instructions for using Parkmobile at your parking facility, as well as detailed instructions on using the Parkmobile app to pay. Essentially, you need to understand what to do at the gate and with your payment ticket, but you also need to know how to use the Parkmobile app as a part of the parking and payment process. Your payment will be processed after each of the below steps are followed. The payment will process through your Parkmobile app and you will not need to present payment at the gate or payment machine.

1) At the entrance to the gated facility, instead of taking the ticket as you normally do, you'll launch the Parkmobile app and do one of two things first.

2) Either enter the zone number posted on the Parkmobile sign OR tap the SCAN button and Generate QR Code button in the app. Scan the QR code in the app by holding your phone under the gate scanner until you hear a beep. The gate will rise to allow entry.

3) To exit the parking facility, tap the 'Ready to Leave' button in your active session in the app and hold the QR code on your phone under the scanner at the exit gate. You'll hear a beep and the gate will rise to allow exit.

IMPORTANT: If you park in this type of facility and took the entry ticket rather than generating the QR code and scanning it upon entry, you will NOT be able to use the Parkmobile app to pay to exit during this visit. For these facilities, you must use the Parkmobile app at entry and exit.

appstartcode.PNG

STEP 3 - When you enter the zone number or tap the 'Generate QR-Code' option noted above, a QR code will appear in your app with an overlay of instructions on what to do next. After you read the instructions, tap OK to reveal the QR code for scanning.

STEP 4 - After tapping OK to dismiss the instructions, the QR-Code is revealed as shown below. Now you'll follow the instructions provided to you in order to scan the code. You'll hold the phone face-up and with a firm grip. Place the phone under the scanner at the entry gate.

STEP 5 - When you hear the beep, remove your phone from beneath the scanner. After a few seconds, the gate will rise to allow entry into the facility. At this point, the app will show you your active parking payment session in the Sessions area of the app. Details about the parking payment session will appear there:

STEP 6 - When you are ready to leave the facility, tap the 'Ready to Leave' button in the active session that appears in the app (as shown above.) This will regenerate the QR code for you to scan at the exit gate. Follow the same procedure you did when you entered the facility, by holding your phone with the QR code displayed, face-up under the scanner at the exit gate.

STEP 7 - After doing so, you will hear a beep and the gate will rise, allowing you to exit.
